Losing Coolant - Part 2

Hi Guys

Well I've managed to trace what I believe is the source of my coolant leak - a damaged hose. Said hose has been replaced but how the hell do I manage to get all the air out of the system when I top up with coolant? Who on earth at Toyota thought it was a good idea to put the top hose on the radiator above the height of the filler cap?

Is it possible to disconnect the heater matrix hose (at the valve) just below the bonnet and expell all of the air from there? Will any other trapped air gradually work its way out through the radiator cap/expansion bottle as the system heats up/cools by expelling air and sucking back coolant from the expansion bottle? Or am I looking at this wrongly?

Your details suggest you have a 3.0, and on a 3.0, the rad cap is on the rad, and is the highest point on the engine cooling system. It was on mine anyway!

If your hose is higher than the top of the rad, you can burp it by leaving the cap off and pressing the hose down and giving it a squeeze so bubbles can work their way out.

Thanks Apache. To be fair, the top hose and rad cap are roughly the same height. I've tried the "burping" but wasn't very successful. I guess I'll just need to be a little more persistent....

Jack the front of the vehicle up, or park facing uphill and remove rad cap. All heaters set to hot, top up coolant to the brim and leave over night(with rad cap off) All air should have found it's way out by morning.
Top up coolant if necessary, go for a drive, check all heaters are blowing hot and re-check coolant when engine is cool enough to do so.
