  • Ssrg 3.4 v6

    Hi,

well, I wrote off my SSRX 3.0L TD LTD last week and need to replace it.

Have been looking at a really nice 3.4 V6 petrol but my current insurers dont have it listed. I've spotted Simons thread in the piccie of the month thread and will ask him once able to enquire as to where he insured his.

In the mean time, does anyone know any insurerers that will cover one?

    Thanks,
    Bails.

I know this is a bit late for a reply, but you can try Sky Insurance (and say your a member of this forum). Got a good quote from them but I cant use it as I need my missus on it and she`s german whos been living in the uk less than 5 years..

Anybody know anywhere else good to try for insurance on the 3.4 V6?? Most companies dont have the vehicle in their list of insurable cars!

It's a fairly common engine in the Landcruiser Colorado. It does have a prodigious thirst, which may not matter if you're not doing loads of miles. Seems like a lovely engine though!

      Have you tried Flux?

        Hey Apache

Gave them a go, but no luck, eventually went with Footman James. quoted 660 at first, but they dropped it to 420 eventually.

Apsolute nightmare trying to find the 3.4 V6 on most insurance company databases.

It seems months ago now, I'd forgotten about this thread. I cant remember exactly the companies that I contacted, but the quotes were all comming in stupid, in the range £700 - £1000, with some quite hefty excess's. I currentlly pay about £350ish.

It was a lovely vehicle, the spec was amazing and in the end it went for very little money. I guess everyone had been put off by the insurance costs and the dealer will have been gutted, because he told me he had gone in quite strong on it.

Anyway, in a way I'm glad I didnt buy it. I managed to get one from Bristol, a 500 mike round trip (with a detour, the M6 was closed on the way home) and its really smart. Gen 3 ssrx in cream, though it looks more like pearl, kind of silver, but not silver if you know what I mean. Like someone above posted about fuel consumption, I have no idea how thirsty the 3.4 would have been, but mine is a 2.7 16v petrol and only returns about 15mpg around town, and I have a very light right foot.

          Thanks guys,
          Bails.

Welcome to the 2.7 owners club. Me and Bushwhacker have one too.

Yes, local running around aint great mpg-wise (mind you, nothing beats shank's if you're not going far), but on a long run they outdo the 3.0TD.

They are also smoother, quieter, more powerful, and don't make you stink of diesel whenever you fill up

Think it might be about time to have a section of our own - or combined with the disappearing V6 petrol section?

Hi mate, thanks for the encouragement. Ive got a few questions if you dont mind.

What the hell is a Hairakkususāfu? And shanks? (do you mean walking)

They are probably both stupid questions that will make me look very silly.

The vehicle itself, well the first and best thing is that it doesnt make that horrible grinding noise when on full lock like my gen 2 did. The smearing it with blobs of grease option never quite worked for me. To me there isnt much of a noticable difference in the smoothness, my gen 2 drove really nice. I'm also not that sure that it is that much more powerfull either, I dont really drive hard enough to notice any difference. Its definately more economical on a run, my 3.0TD did 20mpg everywhere, no matter how it was driven. But at 60mph, the 2.7 seems "reasonably" economical. I did take it to Scotland a few months ago loaded with 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 bikes and all the other stuff you need for a week and it was constantly changing down gears on long hills, much more noticable than the diesel. I guess that must be down to some torque thing.

And yes, it is nice to not be stinking of diesel every time I fill up (which seems like every time i go anywhere near a petrol station).

The 2.7 doesn't have the low down torque of the diesel, but it does rev higher thanks to the multi-valve head.
The engine is also lighter than the diesel, so it's all 'swings and roundabouts' really.

Hmm - sounds like you got a dud phone monkey. I don`t speak to anyone in particular i`m afraid, so can`t really point you to anyone. You could try telling them that another member on the forum gets their 3.4 indured through them.

They even allowed my lift added to the premium at no extra charge.

It just depends who you get I suppose. Keep asking to speak to the supervisor if they try and fob you off - worth a shot!?

Ah, but the 3.4 pulls like a Lexurf according to Tony

Well it's that time of year again...

Usual pain in the ass explaining that Toyota do indeed make a 3.4litre V6 petrol Surf in Japan, and that no, I didn't forget changing the engine and no it isn't a land-cruiser Colorado.

Anyway - Footman James transferred my policy to Equity Red Star last year as they sold their business. Had paid nearly 500 for last years premium.

Equity Red Star wanted £554 on their renewal received today and so rang round the houses (don't even bother with on-line databases as Surf 3.4 is never recognised)

Finally spoke to Adrian Flux - who wouldn't quote me last year as Mrs was was not living in the country long enough (4 yrs - they needed 5), ut tried again this morning and they managed to quote me for £295!

That's with Mrs on the policy - 11 yrs protected no claims, 6 points on the license (TS50 and SP50) and 350 excess. Also with 2" sus lift, 2" body lift and larger wheels and tyres (305/70/16s) Covered for commuting and offroad too! A good mornings work.

And who was the new insurer that Adrian Flux had found for me I hear you ask? None other than Equity Red Star - my existing insurer. Trying to fleece me for an extra £250 in their renewal notice. What a world we live in.
