Why??

...do all the 'new members' that use a seemingly random selection of 10 or so letters as their username state 'Man' as their biography and a dodgy looking URL as their modifications?

Who are they all? What do they want? What are they acheiving by joining?

Serious question by the way. They must acheive something as there's usually a dozen of them on or registering whenever you look at 'who's online'. Will they not eventually fill the user database up and cause problems?

Them be the spammers. I tried to make so that all new users were modified upon registering, nightmare trying to work out who was genuine and who wasn't. Ended up deleting a few that were genuine and I thought the email address etc looked a bit sus.
Now I just go through the new users after a while see who has posted who has confirmed their account and go from there.
Deleted over 4000 last week.

They do seem to sign up at an amazing rate! Wonder why they bother if they know their posts will be moderated at first?

I signed up to an Irish 4x4 forum and was restricted to post ordo anything till I was verified by site admin.

Without registering they get limited acces to the forum. Once they register they get an automated email with a confirmation link.
Once that has been completed the registration is complete, the first post then goes in the new users section where I moderate it and move to the relevant section.
