A couple of lads at work had the same problem. One of them emailed Hotmail and they said they'd look into it. It happened again and he sent them another email, this time they closed his user account and advised him to register again with another user name!

It seems like they don't know how to get rid of this problem either, Will. I don't see any reason why you should close your current Hotmail account if you don't want to but to save you a heap of hassle it may be worth considering.

pirate-storm - I haven't a clue who you're talking about or what the situation is but I don't think you can really do anything to stop the emails from being sent out if it is a bug in hotmail's systems or someone has hacked into and used addresses from your mailbox at some point.

The only thing I can think of that hasn't been mentioned already is changing your password just in case someone has managed to steal your password and is using it.

You can certainly block mail from a particular address and I suggest that could be pointed out to whoever is hassling you so that they can block your email address if it's really THAT bad a problem.

I occasionally get emails from people I know advertising various websites or trying to spread malware, etc. If it happens to me I reply to the message warning that something is wrong that they might want to check out, delete the email in question and leave it at that.

If I were to get hassle similar to yourself I would probably just block whoever was bothering me and ignore them. Life is too short to worry about stuff like that...

but let me take this opportunity to say this coz i wanted to say it ages ago
never seemed the right time to say it

but the man in question did phone me and told me that he was going to get rid of some people coz he is sick of them (it was just banter he took the wrong way)
i had no internet at the time so i could not say owt
and i did not think owt would come of it too

then a few days later i had a text from the guy in question
saying that ****F was banned
this made me so mad i knew it was him playing silly buggas
but could not say it at the time coz i had no internet
i had my ding dongs with ****F but its nowt realy he is a sound bloke
when i came back online it was too late to say anything and not the right time
and i did not think anyone would beleave me
tiz why i joined the other side i felt i had to tell ya guys
in a way iam glad i was off line but wish i had the internet so i could have emailed the admin
i dont want this post dragging owt up

To the OP, it would be wise to change your hotmail password! What has probably happened is your details have been logged and a bot is using your account to email your last emailed contacts.

Usually the receivers wouldn't notice as it would go to their junk email as spam based on the style of email. He must really like you, may be he has you saved in his address book or similar..

Don't worry too much, I doubt Hotmail will do anything at all even if they do read an email such as that..

p.s. my details were somehow logged and my boss received an email one Sunday morning which was worded as a type of boasting letter, about how good these new viagra pills were..
Not only that, but it went to a technical distrubution list so a lot of colleagues got it too.

Hey Will sorry to hear ya got probs mate, do as previously advised .... + add a new contact name "AA" to your hotmail account this will confuse bots or better still Setup up a Yahoo or other account n transfer all ya mail ya want to see to this accounts .... Not faceache, ####ter etc...
Better go n check my hotmail account now, ain't checked it in months !!
I have numerous accounts !!

A slight deviation from this, but my step-daughter picked up a nasty bit of malware from a facebook link last week. Some sort of make believe virus scanner which switched off AVG, Spybot, Adaware and the firewall, and attempted to blackmail us into buying anti virus software.

It required a bootable antivirus disc to dispose of it, which flagged up that it came from a URL connected to facebook, the worlds biggest waste of internet.

i have removed that one from 4 machines already and my laptop twice....

anti-malwarebytes is a handy bit of kit if your every stuck as well...

and a handy little program called rootkill....

Beware Limewire, it's riddled with nasty trojans including a Microsoft lookalike 'Security Center'. That is one b'stard of a trojan & will try to disable your genuine security software & admin access. I could only get rid of the bl00dy thing by re-formatting.

i did down load microsoft live i think it was called
with limewire
i sacked limewire after that
it took me a format to kill it off too
