Just got my Surf back on the road following the cylinder head cracking and pressurising the cooling system enough to blow the hoses off when you exceeded 2500rpm.
Replacement head sourced from Roughtrax - can't fault their service. Old one had cracked on all four cylinders at the base of the combution chamber inserts. Old head picked up quickly.
Gasket set, head bolts etc also from RT.
Radiator replaced (not an expense I was expecting). The transmission oil cooler stub pulled off the bottom of the rad when I tried to remove the pipes to do a full radiator flush. New one sourced for £169 delivered from Ebay with a 'lifetime' guarrantee. Fitted easily and seems good quality.
Viscous fan oil replaced.
Transmission oil cooler fitted.
Head replacement isn't a job I fancy doing too often. It has taken me a week's worth of evenings and much expense.
The truck fired up easily after about 10 seconds of cranking and seems to run well. It appears to be a bit quieter and smoother than before, but this might just be wishful thinking!!
Looking forward to many years of reliable service now.
