Bashplates

Hello, i need a bashplate and have just spoken to Surfenstein (dunno if it was Mark or Neil) on the phone about getting one made up. I just asked for an apache one cos i saw them mentioned on here, but can't really remember what they look like. Anyone got any pics of one fitted?

Or if others have different ones fitted, i'd be interested in knowing what they look like and how much they were.

Just wondering: Looking at the bottom picture there's a kind of triangle bit on the right hand side of the bashplate next to the spotlight and on the left hand side there's no triangle bit, but what looks like a small rad. What's that?
I take it the triangle bit on the right hand side isn't part of the bashplate and that the plate's symmetrical? I'd like it with triangle bits wither side of the bashplate if you know i what mean?

the off side part isn't there as there is a oil cooler there instead

Tranny cooler

Thought so, so the bashplate was symmetrical and had the triangle bits either side, but the LHS was cut off to allow for the ATF cooler?

No, the bashplate was built before I removed the indicators and cut a bit out of the bumper to fit the tranny cooler. I just tacked in an ally triangle to tidy up the other side.

Aah, so i need to ask for it to be made with the triangle bits that come up to the indicators as i'll want to leave them in?

Or if i take them out is it still MOTable without the lower indicators?

Put your indicators in with your sidelights, or leave them where they are and fit the bashplate as is.

I'll warn you though, even though its the dogs danglies, a big piece of 3mm stainless aint cheap!

I have a drawing for one somewhere, I got it made out of 5mm alloy plate and it has survived loads of offroad trips.

Careful with that one, Alan. I had a mate knock one of those up for me and found it wouldnt fit a 3.0 auto because the bottom of the rad sits lower. That design may only fit either manuals, or 2.4 auto / manual. Check first. Im waiting for him to make a piece to modify it....Cheers....Mick.

Put your indicators in with your sidelights...

How do you do that then Andy? Just curious cos we're about to get the water cutter fired up and I was going to put holes in the new bumper to re-fit the original indicators, but that sounds like a much nicer solution.

Just open the hole in the sidelight to take an indicator bulb holder. There is enough cable to re-route without adding any.

Sidelights? Well I tacked a couple on the bumper as I was going to fit a different bumper, but I dare say you could do something with the existing headlamps...
