Can you mix red and green

Took car (BMW) to garage to fix minor awkward leak, they flushed the system and added new coolant.
I asked three times the type and they told me they use Red (suitable for BMW)

I got home decided to top up coolant added 1/4 litre of red (suitable for the car), went to bleed the system - green stuff coming out

Does the colour really mean anything or am I risking a chemical mix that will corrode cylinder head gaskets etc.. help

From what I understand red coolant is OAT based & should not be mixed with glycol. I was reading some info on this subject yesterday. I'll try to find the link & post it.

        Nicked from an old thread.

Green will mix with any colour other than red if you haven't removed all traces of old coolant from the system. Red will mix with nothing other than red. Other than the fact that red has a longer service life, both red and green are suitably matched in all other regards. Blue is your bog standard stuff.

The 2 colours should not be mixed from what i remember it goes all gungy and slimey.
Bmw where i used to work, the main dealer used red but if it went to the bodyshop for anything they topped up with green?? not good
My brakes dont work, so i made the horn louder.

Colour means sod all, read the bottle... I should be ok then both types recommended for BMW...assuming there is no violent chemical reaction and when I open the bonnet all that is left will be molten steel and rubber

I would never mix red and green antifreeze in my frog....

                          Its just asking for trouble....

Once the first ice crystals reach a wood frog, however, its skin freezes. The frog becomes hard and crunchy. "When you drop it, it goes 'clink,'" Storey said

On a serious note, looks like they now know how to put living beings into suspended animation. Just like that film Demolition Man.
