Try running it with the turbo disconnected.
Your'll change your mind very quickly.

You could mount another one on there...

george, you could fit a bigger turbo to it,but like we said the other day,the ecu goes into limp mode with boost over 11psi.plus fitting a bigger turbo produces more lag as it takes longer to spool the bigger vanes up,so turbo lag would be even worse.try fitting an intercooler to your engine and like vince said get a decent free flow exhaust on there.

                What Mark said.
You can apparently fool the ECU and run up to 15psi without any issues providing you keep the Exhaust Gas Temperature within limits. You monitor EGT with an EGT gauge fitted into the exhaust. A large bore turbo downpipe helps keep EGTs lower. This is what some people on ToyotaDiesel are doing.
Adding an intercooler will increase turbo lag but then provide more power once boost is reached. It's a trade off.
I think standard boost is 7psi, you can increase the boost up to 11psi by spacing out the actuator with washers. I would fit a boost gauge before doing any of that though!

BDT (remember him?) fitted a turbo from a landcruiser to his 3lt 2nd gen and i can vouch for that bugga being able to spin it's wheels, dont think he had any ECU/overheating issues unless that was the reason his head went west!!!
anyway my turbos stock (like the pic) and it goes ok, washer out the gate with 3mm washers, that will improve it a bit, you could also trun the compensator on about 5-6 clicks, that will also help, and a good (bigger, 3") straight through exhaust is the best mod, like an asthmatic in an oxygen tent it'll breath better
Too young to die and too old to give a toss

For stuff that you can do yourself, an L200 intercooler or similar and space the actuator out with washers. I used about 2 or 3 washers on each bolt to space it.
If you can get a cheapy boost guage it would be handy to know what you are running. Otherwise if the check engine light comes on then back off and remove a washer when it's cooled.
If you need an exhaust system save up and get a nice 2.25 or 2.5" bore system made up. All my 2.4 ran was a L200 intercooler, the washer's mod, a boost guage. I later had a 2.25" Longlife system put on which marginally helped. I got better fuel economy with it definitely.

There is also a mod that the previous owner did which was found on the Aussy site. You can adjust the nut on the fuel pump to lean off the mixture to get more power. This was already done before I bought the Surf and he did a short write up on this site. He said it reduced smoke and gained power when turned 1/8th of a turn.

One thing I will say, is when I came to replacing the glow plugs, one of them upon removing made a click noise. I had only just begun turning with a socket so the thread of the glow plug was still way inside the head. I initially thought I had snapped the top of the glow plug. What had actually happened was the long ceramic tip of the plug had snapped about halfway down as it had somehow became stuck to the head inside. When I removed the glow plug the heating element (coil) was still wound all the way down inside the port to the tip of the plug. No amount of wiggling removed the tip.

I ended up driving the truck around for about a month on three glow plugs and nothing in the 4th port. There was simply a hole with the tip at the bottom. There was no gas leakage or anything it was well and truly in there.
Apparently Mercedes are known for doing this as their glow plug tip are very long. I'm not sure if this was carbon build up which stuck the tip to the head, or extra heat because of the leaner fuel, intercooler and extra boost which warped the tip (or melted it)...
The truck always ran sweet though.

i can get that stuff no problem
iam going to look into it iam not very good with cars but aint scared of having a go
                          i want a 2nd rad too if i keep the 2.4 engine
iam not doing all that and then it over heats
coz this is what i need i dont wont to say why there are others out there with more money and better stuff
that can do this quiker than me
so i wont ever say what iam fully doing
                          untill i do it

aircon needs coming off i want a 2nd altiater ? spellings wrong on its own ring to run my converter and ring of lights
i need an extra altinater one is not giving out what i need
a 3rd battery will be needed for that ring

exhaust i was going to have it going up the drivers side and on to the roof
                          heat plate and stuff too
it needs to be up out of the way i have crush my exhaust many times
then the snorkel and exhaust will be out the same pipe so it looks good
                          match em to my bullbar

then from that converter i can runn my things on the inside of my surf
a few gadits i will be needing for my big plan laptop camara's and teloscopic boom to get above the trees with a camara on

then i will need to fit the metal detector that will be removeable from the surf
                          when its not needed
the geophis fits with the metal detector and dose the job in one

most this stuff i have got some i need to buy
i have been at this for years now every body around me thinks iam mad
