well we've got an apple tree, not sure what sort of apple tree it is, its only about 5ft 6" tall and the apples it produces are edible depending on how much water it's had while it's been growing it's fruit.

nice one! to be honest i'm no gardner if i had my way i would dig an inspection pit kit it out with outdoor lighting and some form of drainage then once i've got it the way i want then i'd have the whole lot concreted and just have pot plants instead
Anyhow my neighbour has a pear tree, apple tree, grapes and strawberries and he gets a good yeild off the strawberries and the fruit trees are starting to produce as well all with no real tending.

i was in to gardening in a big way
its been of intrest to me since i can remember my grandad had a small farm he called it a ranch
he help feed rotherham through ww2
after the counsel take over the land for a school field
he grew everything on his back garden
          he learnt me alsorts
its stuck with me ever since
so i know whats what with plants trees and bushs
my garden will be like you said in the above
but not potted plants just holes were they grow
my garden will be water and trees with a bridge to get to my shed
all i have to do is clip mi trees and bushes every few years

          suits me
but with me been ill i can only eat fresh and pure or i get ill
so iam going to plant only what i and the birds can eat

i was wondering what other taste people have out there ya never know i may find something i never tryed out

aye i'm disabled now so i don't really do anything with the garden all i do now is grow potted plants indoor and the wife takes care of the mowing but she is terrible at trying to grow anything it most often ends up dying due to lack of water or she goes the other way and drowns the poor buggers

                    Hey Jud
Have a look into Mulberries. they are like a cross between raspberries and blackberries and feckin huge.

the bushes can grow into trees.

Keep away from the house/shed /paths as they stain like a very stainy thing.

Gooseberries are good, excellent crop and very easy to grow, but a bit of a pain to pick. Same goes for raspberries. This is a good time of year to plant both in order to get a crop next summer.

If you're into veg, brussels sprouts, leaks and beetroot are all easy and high-cropping.

                            .
I'd second raspberries, and blackberries too. We planted a dozen canes of each last year, and had a good crôp of raspberries, and the blackberries have gone nuts and we're still picking them!!!
We are a bit further south than you though!!!
Corn on the cob is easy to grow and good fun,6 foot high and more!!
Beetroot is easy,my kids grew loads this year, and good old cougettes, but don't plant too many, you will end up sick of them.

                            Happy Gardening

i just got some blackberrys iam going to put em in the front garden to take over one side of the drive
there wild blackberrys that just sprung up out of my back garden
if i lived were you do i would have grapes every where
i have to make a shelter to grow grapes here
i asked next door if she likes grapes and is it ok if i grow them between both house's under a shelted area that we can share
she jumped to it so iam making that next year
