I did a cambelt change and didnt bother.
Milage is quite low- 67K miles
Kind of a clue there eh

Just my opinion but why risk a brand new head for the sake of £80 worth of belt pully and tensioner.

Aye mate but they will save more than that the 675 is plus vat so near 800 for full kit your 500 has no VAT.
They only need belt ect a set of bolts and gaskets.

Sorry Mud Skipper but I have done a deal for an exchange head with Roughtrax. They are reasonably close to me and if there is any problem in the future with the parts then I can visit to complain in person.
I am sure yours is perfect and it would have saved me some dosh.
                Sorry again,

Got the head off tonight - problem confirmed. Cracks in the cylinder head on all 4 cylinders between injection chamber throat and main cylinder. These must extend into the cooling jacket which was pressurising the coolant.
No cracks in the region of the oilways which is a minor relief.

I suspect that this has happened before. The gasket looked new and some of the securing nuts for the ancilliaries were loose or missing. My guess is that the previous owner had put in a new head gasket which kept things at bay for a while and then flogged it.
I checked the cooling system for bubbling when I went to see it - not a sign. 800km later the cracks had opened enough to let compressed gas through.

Trouble is, the seller has advertised at least 2 more Gen 3 Surfs on Ebay since I bought mine. This may be a one off or may be they are all dodgy!

                    Down but not yet out!

                      thats not good.

when you have done the work, give it an oil change then change it again within a few miles to make sure you have got rid of all the contaminates.
check your bores for any wear or damage aswell
                      best of luck

Might be an idea to name & shame them (especially location in case they change their username) so that others don't caught out too.

I don't want to give his actual user name but he is in Bolton. It isn't AK Motors though. It is just possible that the person he bought the car from had the problem disguised.
He has one for sale on ebay at the moment.
                          Come to your own conclusions.

If it was bought through a dealer then like Mark says you will never know if the head was gone and the previous owner had disguised the fact.In this case i wouldn't go naming the the seller on ebay as there isn't proof he knew about it.
If bought direct from the previous owner then yes you could say he knew about the head and thats why he sold it.
At the end of the day if you knew the head was going on your truck and you couldn't afford to put it right then wouldn't you disguise it and sell or px to a dealer to get rid of it
