  • Steertrak

Had steertrak out to complete a full alignment of the front of the Surf. Took them around 30 minutes. Just taken it for a drive and here is what is wrong now:
    1. Steering not centre, was off to the left, now off to the right but further out than what it was off to the left
    2. Steering pulls to the right even when on a road with a camber off to the left!
    3. Steering does not want to return to centre after a turn
    4. Feels really strange turning left and right

It's a lot worse than before they came around.
I can understand a slight pull to the left as some roads slope that way for rain runoff. But on this type of road the truck wants to drive to the right which is up an incline. On a flat road its worse.

Office is closed now. Will have to call them tomorrow. Quite disappointed! Cost me £82.

If your tyres are worn they could be having an effect. It would be worth swapping front to back to see if this makes any difference (that was what the company that did my alignment recommended and it worked).

Okay may try this but never used to do it at all. When I had the tracking done last time I ran the tyres fine for about 5 days then put 33"s on ever since. I put the old tyres & wheels back on to make it easier for them with their guages.

I don't know / understand the report. Do they produce this report afterwards or before usually?

It's like driving a shopping trolley with a dodgy wheel.

                      Mine shows both.

If they can't get camber and caster right on both sides, they should get it as close as possible and equal on both sides. So even if the numbers are wrong, they should be equally wrong. Correct toe will always be attainable.

My scanner isn't working, but my before and after figures are below.

                            Before:
                            Camber - Left -1o 18" Right 0 05"
                            Caster - Left 0 13" Right 0 10"
                            Toe - Left 0 59" Right 1o 01"

                            After:
                            Camber - Left 0 08" Right 0 12"
                            Caster - Left 0 35" Right 0 37"
                            Toe - Left 0 01" Right 0 01"
