Just plain old discussion, abuse,pi$$ taking and a complete deviation off topic...

Just make sure you use a suitable mask, gloves, bench and a long sleeved t-shirt unless you want sunburn. Arc eye isn't much fun either!
What gas will you be using? We used Argon but I think (dont quote me) that you can use carbon dioxide to stop contamination.
Tungsten Inert Gas, run pure argon gas.
If the metal takes a while to melt your not doing it correctly.
A mig auto mask is not dark enough for tig unless it is switchable.

If you can weld with oxy ace then you should manage tig.

I spent 7yr as a tig production welder, it may be easy at 14 gauge and below., go weld some 20 gauge or even car panels with out distorting them.

I was just giving some tips to judwak. I was saying it may take a while to turn liquid on such a low setting - ie for practice. If you;re jointing two pieces together you want the hottest setting possible without ruining the pieces to try and prevent heat soak and distortion like you mention. I used an auto mask with different light settings. Was much easier than a solid non electrical mask. And we only used argon but I have heard of people using CO2 as a cheap alternative? Never tried it myself though.
btw I never took any courses or qualifications in welding.
