  • How do you fit a 12.5" tyre to your spare wheel carrier?

I've had a look and my BFG tyres sit against the metal frame of the rear mounted spare wheel carrier.

If I put a deep dish steel on the back I don't think it will fit on. I've seen photos with large tyres on the rear - how do they go on? Do I need to fit a spacer first??

Fitting a odd smaller wheel to the front axle will be fine as long as it's not in 4wd and the hubs are disengaged, but if I do that to the rear with an auto locking diff I could end up doing doughnuts
    Oh Nana, what's my name?

Either that, or bungee it on.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Or grind off the mounting plate and weld it back on with extended sides.

Or, if you're feeling ultrabrave, stick it on the roof...

          - even better stick it on the bonnet......

The older style of underslung carrier didn't have any location bars for the sides of the tyres, so may be able to squeeze a 33 there. Might have to move the exhaust slightly though as it goes quite close.

Mine bolts straight on, 33/12.5's on 10" rims with 45mm offset.

If you get the right offset (-32) then it fits straight on no problems.

Dunno about the bonnet. Wouldn't fancy lifting it with a 33" tyre on there - or having to remove it every time.

                I've seen spacers used
If at first you don't succeed.........give up.

I was joking - you wouldn't be able to see where you're going with a 33 on the bonnet.....

And there was me thinking you wanted to put the spare wheel from a Vespa on the back of your Surf. Then I realised that Vespa wheels are 10", not 12.5"...

                        5'10"

Even with your head touching the roof lining I doubt you'd see past a 33 on the bonnet but hey, maybe your such a big man your head pokes out the sunroof

I have 4 15x10 modulars for the road wheels and a steel with less offset for the spare, fits fine.
