  • Air Con query, and yes I've tried searchng....

Had it regassed and saw on the machine "system full" so deffo got gas. Cleaned the little window in the condenser/drier and can see "stuff" being squirted in across the window. Thing is the air con is not cold, in fact, no different to ambient AT ALL!
Any pointers please? Garage I use are happy to regas FOC if i need to empty it to get it fixed...

    Slider control set to cold?
    A/C light on?
Cable come off the shut-off valve on the bulkhead?
The main A/C fuses are behind the passenger side kick panel, above the ECU.

      Slider cold
      A/C light on
      Fan on
Checked compressor spinning up, new belt. Rise in revs
Noise heard from cab when you turn air con off, probably decompression, sounds a bit like opening a bottle of fizzy pop slowly, but deeper. (hth's)
Where is the shut off valve? what does it look like?
Assume fuses ok as all seems to be working bar the cold bit.

      Still !

        bumpity bump

Any other views guys? Will (try and check) the shut off valve in the morning. I assume its in the engine bay, not within the dash?

Don't forget to check the fuses too. It costs nothing and stops you looking stupid when you take it in somewhere!

          (Bitter experience talking there!) lol

Ok update, checked the valve on the bulkhead - the one with the hot/cold slider cable on it - it is on and working fine.
The high pressure pipe from the ac pump gets hot very quickly, but all other pipes see to be ambient.
As I said, its pressurised, theres flow, but still no cold. Still to check the "fuses" but not too sure what would be fused?? Any knowledge on this guys?

Take it back to the folk who re-gassed it, surely they gave you a guarantee? KwikFit, for instance, give a 'cooler or your money back' guarantee.

Next thing to check is if the flap is operating on the fan assembly behind the glovebox. The cable that operates the valve on the bulkhead also operates a flap to direct fresh/recirculating/conditioned air.

Will do. thx for the advice.
As for taking it back, I can get more gas when I need it FOC, but thats not the problem. Gonna get to the bottom of this if it kills me ( or costs me!)

Who re-gassed it? And what gas did they use?

A Kwik Fit subsidiary, and it has had the alterations to use the new gas. He checked the stickers but couldn't find an "amount" to put in. I know too much can reduce the coldness, but this isn't getting cold at all.

Did they not use any gauges?

could be the expansion valve, changed a few of these before, its piggybacked to the evaporator housing behind the dash.

The only cable behind the glovebox loops around from centre of dash(heat control) back down to centre of dash - operating the temp slider moves the cable - lots of flappy noises can be heard, so assuming this is the valve you mean, its working.

                            Anything else?

                              Hi Tony,
How would you know if this is not working? you say behind the dash - is it the unit to the left, behind the Glovebox?
