thanks guys but blistering performance from the 2.4 is a dream but in reality i'm not looking for massive performance just an improvement in the general running and performance as at the minute it runs reasonabley well but it seems to take a long time for the turbo to spool up and the economy could take a little improving but i'm not expecting miracles (unless gods a forum member!)
anyhow phantom how much for the system with the dreaded post?

I tell you what go buy the tail piece off egay and pay the postage and I'll send you the centre section for free because I think you will have to open the box to sort it. Just let me know it was you because there are a few watchers on it.

Thats a good price for a full system. The full system is from the flexi pipe back. It's good because our turbo engines don't need the very last silencer on the system. You don't notice any different with it on or off, (except on a family members 4.2 land cruiser). The flexi pipes have a life span. Even with a stainless one, the constant flexing will eventually wear them out. Longlife give a years warranty, providing your engine mounts are okay and not shot - very rare, most likely doesn't apply.

Thinking about it I have no idea what difference a larger bore exhaust would make without the other mods but the standard system is a joke!

A little time and a wee weld here and there £60 all in for my exhaust...
Apparently the turbo pipe is very restrictive. I'm trying to have one made in England, or worst case I'm thinking about one of these from Aus - http://www.eng-tek.com.au/product_in...roducts_id=222

But I really dont want to pay that cost.
Whilst I googled for that website, it lead me back here where someone else was researching a similar thing. I remember shadowing a colleague when I was being trained in Longlife - a customer had a 3" exhaust made and had been in extensive talks with the head office. Wonder if it was this guy:

just read this post and now im confused.

if i got a 3inch exhaust, straight through, no boxes, would i need to put a box on for the MOT?

and whats this exhaust straight from the turbo talk? am i being led to believe there is an exhaust pipe from the turbo and engine?, or am i just having a moron monday day?

It's probably irrelevant depending on what you are wanting to accomplish. The exhaust system would normally be from the flexi pipe to the rear. For the MOT you do not need a silencer (box) but you should have one, even a small one (if you want more volume, I guess this is the reason for not wanting one) just a small box would take away any nasty noises like rasping that can develop in long pipework!
To be honest, I don't think there would be much pressure difference from a 2.5" bore from the flex to a 3" bore. Our engines don't rev particularly much, with most of the work done around 3000rpm. They are only 4 cyl too. What would be more beneficial is a large volume of open space behind the turbo (on the exhaust side). This is to create a pressure difference and help with spooling up the turbo. The way to do this would be to replace the pipework directly from the turbo with a larger bore and for it also to be smooth / free flowing.
You can then reduce the size to 2.5" bore a bit further down the system without any effects.

In brief, the exhaust system is made up of a manfild, which connects to the engine head, this manifold joins all four ports into one and enters the turbo inlet, this then leaves the turbo into the turbo downpipe, (or turbo elbow, or dump pipe). There is a 3 bolt flange which marks the start of the downpipe which will incorporate a flex. Up to this point, the standard parts usually wont perish as water will not be able to sit inside here. This is the first part to get hot and the last part to cool down.
From here is the rest of the exhaust. A centre box and a rear section.
