  • ATF Oil filter

Do we have one? Was going to change the oil but my mechanic friend said better wait until I get a filter. A gawped at him.

Cant see one on Milners or Roughtrax though so does one exist inside our box?
    Oh Nana, what's my name?

There is a strainer in the bottom of the gearbox, I believe, but it's not a replaceable filter as such, so your mechanic is talking b*ll*cks as far as the Surf is concerned.

Yup! all ya can do is unbolt the trans pan and clean the gauze strainer, you'll need a new gasket tho for the pan, (or some instant gasket)

BTW, to change the fluid properly you need to buy a large (25lt) can, its done with the engine running, the two atf pipes disconnected from the rad and placed in two clean buckets with the intake pipe submersed in new fluid, ya top up till it runs into the other bucket clean, OR take it to a garage that specialises in auto trans, they'll have a machine they hook it to to do the same job, OR just drain it from the sump and refill to correct level, do it again in a few days and you'll have practially new fluid in it, cheaper, less aggro,
