  • Veg Oil / Cash & Carry

    Hi there folks!

I'm currently getting SVO from a local Chinese supermarket/cash & carry at £15.99 per 20L drum but their prices are somewhat erratic (presumably depending on what price they pay to their own suppliers) and have gone up and down like a yo-yo lately hitting nearly £20 a drum at times.

I've noticed folks on here saying that they get their SVO from CostCo, Makro, etc, at £15 a drum (or less) in the past.

Would any of you kind souls out there be able to get me one of the cards from these wholesaler/cash & carry places so that I can save myself a few pennies (which obviously adds up over time!) on SVO for my Surf?

Currently on the old rock'n'roll (amazing lack of jobs here in north Staffs at the moment) and will be a poor impoverished student again in the autumn (resuming the teacher training course after taking time out to look after my son following his short stay in hospital late last year) so every penny I can save is useful!

    My local places are:

    JTF
    Booker
    Trademart
Hancocks (this seems to be a confectionary specialist so perhaps not so useful for SVO!)
    Makro
    Bestway
(just noticed that there is a CostCo in Manchester too - not too far away)

Thank you in advance for any cash & carry cards you may be able to offer!

Check out your local Tesco Extra. Mine do 5ltr sunflower oil for £4 = 80ppl

Cool. Cheers for that. I'll check it out next time I'm up there...

I'm already paying 80p/litre at the wholesalers but it'd be nice to buy in slightly smaller quantities when money is tight!

hows about knocking on a few take-aways doors and asking to take away their used cooking oil for free. for the sake of a few j-cloths / filters and a some old barrels/buckets you could have the oil you need for free.
even if you buy your equipment for around £60, your first tank full will have paid for your initial outlay!
once you have a regular supply you could even consider building a bio diesel plant whick you could use at 100% even in winter.
I currently collect my WVO for free from 3 regular suppliers and produce bio diesel. all in - chemicals - power - costs me about 11p per litre.
I used to run on WVO but had to dilute it with derv in the winter.
        just some ideas!!
        Everyone thinks I'm paranoid!!

Thanks for the ideas - it's what I'm planning on doing anyway in the slightly longer term. I was going to get some of those filter sock thingies from a fleabay seller and experiment with running on some waste veg oil I've got my dad saving from his chip pan!

There's often people selling on eBay. Have a look there.
