  • advice on a surf needed

    hi all
went to look at this surf on ebay last night which looks nice and clean

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...STRK:MEBIDX:IT

would the 2 inch lift affect the surfs handling on road and how much would it cost to make it original?

how much does it cost to have timing belts done as it has no history?

what would be a fair price

    thanks

I am thinking of going over this weekend, Timing belt changed for £95 on mine, what would you want to take the lift off for ? get bigger wheels fit spacers...live a little

A 2" lift shouldn't be really noticable handling wise, often rides better than stock as it has striffer springs, as long as its done with uprated springs and shocks, not just coil spacers and altered torsion bars.

3.0 Cambelt change from me is £50 plus the belt.

Doesnt look too tall to me. I wouldnt lower it back to stock. Sometimes the suspension can sag again so the 2" lift would compensate and make it around standard height. Well, this is what happened to me on my other surf.

So then Dennis, are you going for it, just want to know so that i don't bid against you, Its just that it is a lot closer than Redruth or Glasgow or even Birmingham for that matter, must admit i don't think it will go that cheaply, What were your impressions ?

"Low Reserve" £2500 ! obviously expectations are high or they are deranged ?? must be the Bridlington air ! don't think I'll bother then, Now if it had been Scarborough or filey I would have gone just for the hell of it ...oh and the fish and chips

Why should eBay be any different to Autotrader, or an advert down the shops?

yeah, spotting a cracked head is such a hit n' miss, fresh rad seal will even mask it from the sniffer or pressure test sometimes

look for signs on excessive pressure on the hoses or rad, and that about all you can do if someones really trying to hid it.

its just something you have to live with and take a chance on, they are still worth it IMHO.

Just to add to that, what happened with mine was that I was developing a "negative pressure" in the cooling system somehow and the rad hoses were getting sucked in when they cooled down cos the rad cap was blocked with rad weld, etc.

Not sure how common those symptoms might be...

Same happened to me after a long motorway journey - I noticed the overflow pipe to the expansion bottle was blocked, therefore not allowing water to be sucked back into the tank when it cooled. I took the pipe off and blew the crud out over the floor and the hoses never compressed again. It did point out that my rad cap was too weak and needed replacing though. With the hose unblocked the system didnt hold pressure and temperature started to increase when travelling over 65mph (2.4 litre).
