  • urgent advice on sticking callipers please

only been using truck a couple of times aweek due to good weather and bike

went out last night and was pulling over the road and vibrating, pulled over and off side disk hot with a bit of smoke, gingerly made way home (only about 1 mile)

took callipers off and it seems like the bottom set off pistons are siezed solid

I am hoping I have not damaged disks!

    1) so is it worth stripping calliper down and replacing seals or just replace complete calliper or even go as far as replacing both?

    2) I will replace pads anyway, but aftermarket or genuine?

    3) for what its worth would you recommend doing disks aswell even though they dont look bad or grooved

    4) disks are worn differently on each face (although both wheels are the same) in that the contact area on the outer face is larger than the inner...is this normal?

    5) roughtrax or milners

    thanks guys in advance

Yes they are worth stripping for a look and then decide. If the bores and pistons are ok then all you need is seals.

        2) I will replace pads anyway, but aftermarket or genuine?

Nothing wrong with aftermarket but make sure you get the correct pad.

        3) for what its worth would you recommend doing disks aswell even though they dont look bad or grooved

Check the thickness and for any warping and have them machined if ok.

        4) disks are worn differently on each face (although both wheels are the same) in that the contact area on the outer face is larger than the inner...is this normal?

        See above.

        5) roughtrax or milners

No idea but I have heard they supply the wrong pad for the latter model LN130 and KZN130 with the bigger discs. Same with some down here.

            thanks

decided to replace callipers and whilst at it do both!

anyone know the piston dia - the reason I ask is that a local factors has some that seem very cheap 43mm = £45 or 45mm = £100+. May take the old one down as got a feeling could end up with the wrong ones.

Will do disks and pads too I think. Are disks easy to replace on the second gen. Can find a link to 3rds which indicate they should slide off without messing with bearing etc but can't find anything on 2nds?

2nd generation requires hub removal to replace the discs so clean and repack or replace (if damaged) the bearings while they are off.

I'm fairly sure early second generation had 42mm pistons and the late models have 45mm.

Hilly you need to fill in your profile as we don't know what 2nd gen you have so we can't give you the answer you need properly unless we know the year of vehicle etc

Good point. I did do a search of his previous posts and it seems he has a '95 4runner. Much better if we don't have to stuff around doing searches though.

it would be a good thing if the profiles had to be filled in properly when registering as it will save alot of asking for details and wrong answers given
