help ball joint upper 3rd gen

Top 3rd gen ball joint, I have the old one out new one does not want to go in.
Do I need to heat the cast to allow it to fit.


Please don't reply with "I don't know mate but good luck"
Or I am likely to visit and part your nuts as it's 9 20pm and I am ####ed off.

Probably not much help but factory manual says use a press! So I guess that means its supposed to be difficult to get in. See attached (typically unhelpful toyota manual page).

Thanks Rob just what I needed. I am in the middle of making a draw tool from 2" pipe some 3mm plate and a socket.

This is the most akward ball joint I have ever tackled.

Having to wait till tomorrow for Alan to make a copy of that draw tool.
Made one that would have worked by drawing on the ball joint, decided that was a bad idea so Alan will knock one up that braces on the cast and pushes from below.

We can finish on Sat and sort out what's left for your MOT as well, if you want.

gid lad, mines is 3 balljoints, an inner CV boot, and the two rear half shafts.

Anyway finally got there, had to give in and get the top ball joints pressed in.

Both sides rebuilt with new ball joints top and bottom, just waiting on two new track rods coming from Roughtrax.

Hopefully it will be back driving smoothly, New dampers all round and now all ball joints.

I will stick a wee how to, well a how I did it, in the tech section for anyone thinking of tackling this job on a 3rd gen. Bottom joints are a 20min job, top ones are a whole assembly including hub off and access to a press.
