Or wire it properly and you don't have to put up with traffic alerts interupting your music every 1/2 hour

how do you get the rear speakers out?

Take the rear trim panel off, then unscrew them.

I think there is an option to turn this off. I can't remember where it is. My stereo does this sometimes and it's bl00dy annoying!! Have you replaced any speakers at all?

It's got Sony speakers in the original boxes in the front, and I have no idea whats in the back, but I doubt very much it's the originals. I have a pair of 6x9s to put in the back, but I suspect thats whats in there already
                it's in me shed, mate.

Some radios retract the antenna when using CD rather than radio. This power is the same power used to turn on and off the rear amps. Thats why your rears switch off when playing CDs.

I'm really looking to replace my speakers soon. They are very poor; but I want to replace them with similar sized ones so that they cannot be seen like the standard speakers.
Would I need to replace the speaker wire too, or is the current wire enough gauge?

With a bit of butchery you can get 6x9 in the back without them showing at all. Thicker wire is better, but I cant get too excited about taking all that trim out to run wires.. There are some proper semi pro's at playing music for the cows here who will give you advice..

I've never replaced the speaker wire in a car but for home hi-fi it's amazing how much of a difference it makes having decent speaker cable. You'll never get the best out of what you've got already without decent cable.

I couldn't recommend what speaker cable to use in a car, or even what to look out for in terms of spec, but I'm sure someone out there is into their car stereo type stuff way more than me and knows a bit more on the subject!

I know this. When someone gave me some home speakers when I was at school I fitted them up with the free wire, but it wasnt thick enough and so would become muffled when turned up due to the peaks of the waves being cut off.

I think it's Scorpion who has all the kit in his Surf. I've just sort of kept this in the back of my mind for when I will actually get round to it.

I must say, I treated my surf to a supa doopa funky touch screen/faceoff/radio/cd/dvd/mp3/iphone/sd card/tv media player and it only cost me £165 brand new from ebay. Getting it fitted in the dash was fun, but it works a treat! Not got round to tuning the tv bit in yet though.

It had the original double din stereo in & it didn't work properly. I couldn't stand any more jaunts on the m25 in rush hour only being able to listen to radio2 & bbc 5 live!! It just had to go!! Arrrggggghhhhhhhhh.
It's only kinky the first time...

I've seen those un-named ebay brands. They seem to have ALL of the functionality of the very expensive Pioneer units at 1/5th of the price. How does it fair up to the expensive models?
I once bought a USB head unit from ebay and it was the worst quality electronic equipment I had ever seen. Even just switching from CD to Radio created so much noise through the system I returned it as faulty. That was probably a one off but I have not taken a chance ever again
