  • sprung a leak and body lift question

I noticed a small patch under neath the Surf after driving these past few times so I removed the bash plate to see where it's coming from. Turns out there is a split directly under the gearbox oil feed. If I wiggle the union up and down then water seeps out. Seems a bit strange how this has happened though, but new rad on order from roughtrax.

I'm about to do the body lift soon too, and to ease the rad replacement, can someone tell me where the rad mountings are and the best way to replace it?
Do I need Rad brackets for when I do the body lift? As I think I only have bumper brackets. It's a 3.0 second gen.

    Cheers

I have just done a 3" body lift and I did not move my rad down as it brought the bottom part of the rad out from behind the cross member and to my mind with airflow through it, it works better plus I could wash out the other half of the plains that were lodged in it I just replaced the hoses that were pulled tight by the lift and left the bottom of the fan housing off

hiya Tony.If you take the lower shroud from the rad then you can leave the rad where it is.Its really only the 2.4's that need the rad lowered as the rad cap isn't on the rad itself.
There are 4 bolts holding the rad in place and you will see them once the shroud is taken off.I thimnk they are 12mm bolt if i remember correctly

Thanks Rich! PS Thank you for the payment, that has gone through now. The rad leak couldnt have come at a worse time LOL.
Are these bolts easy enough to get to? I remembered this being an half day job for me on my 2.4 as I couldnt get to the bolts because of all the air con equipment being in the way.
Saying that, do I need to do anything like that on this 3.0 ? I don't know where any of the air con rad is on the 3.0.

I'm supposed to be in Basingstoke Saturday afternoon. Hope I can get this done first thing AM with my simple tools
