LOL, check out these 3rd Gen disc's I did a few years ago.....

Customer said "its been grinding for awhile, yesterday it stopped making a noise, but brakes don't work very well either"

        No $hit Sherlock!!!!!!

Check your brakes people when they make a odd noise, or even before.

I have thought about doing this, I have also thought about contacting VOSA to report the vehicle for having a dodgy MOT done, The MOT was done in August last year, both I and Growler agree that there is no way in hell that it should have passed with discs like that. It failed on brake pipe work, but no mention of discs even as an advisory.

Growlers discs are on there 3rd set of pads, and they still look like brandnew!!

Some would argue that it has been 7 months since the MOT and that could have worn down during that time, but to be honest I very much doubt it, I would of thought that it would have showed up on the brake meter as being low in efficiency, with 3 out of 8 pistons seized surely something would have shown up??

I makes me wonder what else the MOT tester "missed". I have gone over the truck with a fine tooth comb this morning, and to my knowledge everything looks ok, but I havent got the means to do a sort of MOT test on it (such as swivel plates/brake meter/emissions etc).

As I said earlier I think I might take it to my local MOT station an get a full test done on it, just to see if anything crops up, or if everything is ok.

I know an MOT test does not cover alot of issues, but but as for safety and roadwothiness, it will see if it is in roadworthy condition or not, to be honest in my opinion it is, we didnt see anything hanging of yesterday when the front wheels where removed and I didnt see anything today when I had the back wheels off if, but what do I know, im just a bus driver!!

don't get to excited, it'll only a couple of weeks for the back plates to wear through the disc if is used daily. MOT will only look for 3mm or so of brake pad left, and that won't last long stopping 35" tyres.

you've had the truck a while now, if you try and make a fuss they'll only ask you why you didn't inspect the brakes at the first sign of the pads worn out.

the disc's are only like that because the pads wore out. they only had to pass inspection on the day of the MOT, i freed my seized calipers up to get it through the MOT with WD40, when I changed them 2 weeks later they where seized again. the MOT guy will just say on the day it passed the brake test they worked fine.

last august is only 2 months off a year ago, I think you're wasting your time personally.

I would've thought a few angry words with the seller of the Surf would be justified (even though it'll make bu99er all difference to anything) given that he said that there were new brakes, etc on the truck not long ago.

Caveat emptor and all that though of course...

yeah, thats fair enough. Was just trying to say there's not a lot of point going after the MOT guy, when it was nearly a year ago. There is really very little to be gained on a normal wear and tear issue that far down the line.

by all means have a bitch to seller if miss sold.

but there is no way that wouldn't have been making a odd noise, or feel wierd, Yogi has had the truck a while now and that isn't a overnight amount of wear, it must have been grinding on the disc for at least a week unchecked since the pads wore out. if the calipers were seized, it wouldn't take long for even a new set of pads to wear out.

its more a 'live and learn' moment all round IMHO.

                      Spot on there I think.

On a (slightly) related note a former colleague of mine bought a dodgy car from a "home based" car dealer (ie no garage premises, etc) that superficially seemed fine but needed major work doing not long after he bought it. It was supposedly given a fresh MOT, etc, which looked a bit dodgy. He got trading standards involved and the "gold toothed man" who sold him the car is being investigated!

Still waiting for the Logbook and Car tax reminder, bought the truck on 4/4/10, so nearly been 2 months. Contacted DVLA, they said the truck was still registered in his name, so ive got to tax it with the green slip, and then apply to have the truck in my name with a V62 from, I would love to know why the pr1ck hasnt sent of the log book. Ah well, if I get there the V62 form to them before he sends of the logbook (which I think I will!!) he will get fined £80, which could go up to a £1000 fine!!! that will teach the c&nt!!

The guy has turned out to be real feck1ng pr1ck, shame he lives in Southampton, if he lived a bit closer, I would have sent the boys round!!

Beginning to wish I had not bought this particular truck, had a chance of another one but they took too long to contact me back and they didnt seem interested in the sale.

Got a few "good family things" to do over the weekend, so im not going to spoil my mood by phoning the pr1ck up and giving him a piece of my mind, Im gona save that until Monday or Tuesday, that way DVLA should have recieved my application form.
