  • Brighter bulbs

Im after some brighter headlight bulbs because the standard ones are naff.
I was looking at a thread about a HID kit that cost £600 "like fcuk", was thinking more along the lines of £20.
Anyone point me in the right direction.
If its not broke don't fix it.

The easy option is to fit Osram Nightbreakers ...

Whiter, brighter light with a better pattern in my experience - they're legal and they're not too expensive if you get them on eBlag !

Doing anything else is likely to exceed your budget - tight git !

HID kits can be obtained off eBay for say £40.00 as far as i am concerned they are the same kit that sells for £200-£300 via certain dealers (nice profit margin).

But ...I'm on another forum (BMW Ireland) and drivers there are getting fed up with the mass of poorly aligned aftermarket HID kits on other cars blinding them.
I think its only a matter of time before the police jump on this one with random road checks (the same thing they do for tinted windows), and culprits will be asked to remove their HID kits.
Aftermarket HID bulbs work well enough in projector type headlights but not reflector type units.

In fact putting a HID bulb into a reflector headlight unit is a problem, the beam does not follow the desired path

True, but if they're used with the Surf's original wiring, they ain't gonna be giving out 80/100 watts.

One of the problems surfs have (as has been hinted) is volt drop. If you have a look at the most recent thread regarding brighter lights, you'll notice that I am taking my Hids out (because of poor beam pattern) and have built two upgraded wiring looms (one for my truck, and one for my sisters), which will hopefully get around the issue (my sister is yet to get back to me, and I haven't driven mine a night yet, because much to my regreat it isn't my daily driver now, does make it feel so much better driving it after a couple of months in a normal car.)
                            Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

Hey tintin, took your advice & got a pair of the halfords bulbs today & must admit they are alot brighter than the standard ones.

                              Quite pleased really.
