Tesco 99 RON

Its an import, so strictly speaking it's mapped to be optimum for 99RON (though the map is wide enough to allow use of 95RON without detonation). I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised! The UK models are around 230-240BHP, but the imports seem to see anything between 270 and 300BHP as standard judging by the rolling road plots on the owners club website. After the Surf, it feels like 3000!!!
From running around on 95, and trying Texaco 97 (no apparent difference but frightening price!) to having a first go of Tesco 99 and finding what feels like an extra 50BHP!
Tesco 99RON petrol by my sister's up in Liverpool is actually cheaper even before applying the 5p/l saving, than normal big name petrol round here!Last edited by Apache; 19 May 2010, 14:35.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

I put 99 in my surf once and it seemed like a totally different vehicle. I just noticed a 99 written on the inside of the fuel filler flap one day so thought I'd have a crack. More power, better efficiency, much smoother. As I understand it, the ECU 'retards' it when it's on a lower RON so you get less action. I think that's why American cars have massive engines but go so slowly (besides the weight), they're set up to run on 80 something so are extremely retarded...
