Hi Gman. Thanks for the response. We live in Kirkstall. She's over - heating when we go up any hills! We're hopeless at DIY, so wouldn't know where to start with changing the thermostat or anything, it took us a month to work out how to fix the speedo We use the same garage every time but he said she didn't over heat when he took her out (on the flat, along the ring road) so he didn't know what was wrong with her. We'd just like someone who has a clue, to have a look, so we don't kill her with ignorance.
Is the expansion bottle over flowing? it only needs to
be about half full to start. make sure the rad is full.
Check the auto trans fluid is at the correct level, do this
with a hot engine, on the level, h/brake on, go thru all
the gears a few times and check the level, (engine running in N)
it's marked hot/cold if low, top up.
Replace the radiator cap and thermostat and "burp" the cooling
system to remove any the air in it, (heaters on).
Hi fattysplash, if you do need a machanic you can try "graham" at autoworld on stanningley road "07970542918".
I bought my surf from him & he knows them inside out & TBH i would'nt trust anyone else with my surf.
Fit a seperate transmission cooler, they're around 30 quid plus a couple of hours of your time.
Going up long hills causes both the transmission fluid and engine oil to become overheated and the trans cooler in the bottom of the rad can't cope so all that extra heat causes the coolant temp to rise and spew out.
As said check and/or replace the transmission fluid using the two bucket method. Just draining from the sump bolt is pointless really.
