  • Ladas are coming back...?

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8672464.stm

Looks like a reasonable cheap runaround motor.

I've always found the Lada Niva curiously attractive. I'm honestly not quite sure why. It's the same with Dnepr (and similar) motorbikes. You really shouldn't like them but I can't help myself...

My mum bought a Lada Riva back when I was wee, she spent all her saving on it! Me, my brother and sister thought it was pure luxury as it replaced a Series 2 landy, we had a seat each WITH SEAT BELTS, windy up windows, cassette player.

Was a very practical car, easy to maintain and reliable. Kept on going until the body work eventually rusted to bits. Unfortunatly the quality from different factorys varied massively, we were very lucky to have a good one!! It was pretty good at offroading as well!

We took 2 Ladas over there in 1995 n saw 3 of them bikes on the fourth floor of a Department store ( no idea how they got em up there) "all stairs, no lifts" £300

Maybe they should combine the Trabant's rust-proofing methods with the Lada's reliability. The ultimate red car?

Plenty of guys over here off road Lada Nivas.
With a good set of tyres they are not that bad, hard to lift though,
Most Niva drivers carry spare front driveshafts as well

            Re

I remember going to Bulgaria in the mid 80's, CHEAP holiday!

            There were Ladas everywhere!

            Cabs were yellow Ladas!

            Hearses were black stretch Lada's

            Limos were white stretch Ladas!

Police cars were black and white Ladas!

Bizarre experience BUT I never saw one that was in bad nick, they were old etc. but they all looked and worked great!

Had a few neighbours/relative who swore by them (or was it at them?).

In my opinion, who cares what it looks like so long as it has good fuel economy and low insurance!

I'd even get me one of those Indian jobs, the Tata Nano (shasbutt).
