I bought my surf of them last summer. Was watching his adverts on autotrader for a few months before contacting them and he seems to sell a lot of surfs. He had a low milage 2nd gen I was interested in and after contacting him to email me photos of the underneath of the truck I booked a flight over to pick it up (risky I know but a lot of people in NI do this and not the first time I have done this). The truck was as described in the advert, it clearly had new chrome all round, most of the exhaust was new, new brake master and pads. I found him helpful and the truck was in good nick. It got tharshed the whole way to stranrear for a ferry with no probs at all. Truck is still running great, only issues this year has been leaking rocker cover gasket and leaking fuel pump (what to you expect for a 20 year old motor). Definately worth a visit to see if he has anything worth buying. And you can always challenge the price. I did !

I was lucky. I bought mine from a trader, in Ipswich, on ebay. It was overpriced at £2k, but he gave me over the odds trade in on my Landrover which evened it out... I bought it in Dec and I don't think he was expecting me, esp as I'm a lady, to give it the thorough checking over that I did. Despite the snow & ice I was happy to get underneath to double check for any leaks etc. It even came with a weeks worth of insurance on it. All in I only paid just under £900 for it! It is the best motor I have ever had and I wouldn't want to part with it, except maybe for a 3ltr...
It's only kinky the first time...

I think I'll drop him an e-mail and see what response I get. The main reason I asked if anyone's dealt with them on here is because 250 miles is a long way to find out if they're cowboys or not.
        Cheers

What about ken adams in bolton? He seems to have a decent amount go through and is happy to answer questions.

I was looking at one of his before mine came up for sale. That was it then no turning back.

Not sure but he always has one or two nice looking 3rd gens for sale

That one is very much like mine.

Always nice looking vehicles and well priced for the market. If you search him on google there are a few forum posts about him. He seems decent, happy to trade, happy to sort out any issues and knows his onions etc.

Keep him on your watch list. Normally around the 3.5k mark for a non intercooler 3rd with all the bells and whistles.

I was very much interested in the Red one. But the details are copy and paste so I was unsure. I knew they are over priced, so was looking at knocking him down.

So far its the only one I have seen that has Ticked all the boxes that I am asking.

That's why I'm struggling to find one. I'm after a 2nd gen with an under slung spare yet 95% of them have the spare on the tailgate

Whats the beef with the spare then?

My Gen 2 spare is underslung (well actually it is in the shed at the moment as the winch has seized up)..

                            But I am not selling

Not helpful I know, but nice to know my Surf is a bit rare :-)

For me its half nostalgia as my dad had a 'underslung' one. The other half I just don't like them with it. I have never owned one or seen them with the back door open. But I assume you need more room if you want to open the tailgate and when reversing it could get in the way.

I like symmetry, and the wheel on the back is not. I don't like any 4x4 with a wheel on the back.

If the wheel is not on the back, not a proper 4x4
