The UK distributor for American Racing wheels threw another spanner in the works earlier. He says there is no way the AR Baja wheels will fit the Surf due to the front hub size is too large and the rim wont fit over the hub.

Can anyone tell me the width / diameter of the hub? I've been on the phone to a distributor in New York to find out more info as the UK disty has made it difficult from the beginning.

Anyways, here are baja wheels on a 4Runner in the states (one of many photos I have seen)
Edit: just realised I have more than a few pics of this truck / wheel setup, you can see why I've lost faith in the disty in the uk.

have you tried nigel at la supertrux,reason being i know he had a few set kicking around the workshop recently.and i also know that our tony n,has a set on his second gen surf.think he has the mickey thomson classic II,fitted.

I've emailed Supertrux trying to find out details a couple of times of their rims on their website. They have replied both times but their answer negated all of the questions I asked about their rims. Also since I probably wont want to pay £200 per rim I didnt email them again as I thought it's a bit cheeky.

I'm about to call the NY disty back as he was going to phone American Racing directly, people over there always have trouble phoning England

Is a 4Runner SR5 same as a Surf?

Anyhow, AR told the NY disty that the centre hole is 4.25" so as long as the hub is no bigger than 4.25" they will fit no problem.

Next thing, my Surf is at a garage for a couple of weeks. Is there anyone kind enough to measure their hub for me please?
There is a few beers in it for you if you're going to Avalanche in a few months providing beer is allowed in (I hope so). If not, we'll sort something.

Whilst I have your attention Mark (thanks for the lift bits BTW!!) I'm trying to source a diff from the states, I have the same issue there that they don't list diffs for a Surf or a 3.0td auto 4Runner, but they list the v6 model. Do you know if the diff carriers / crowns are the same even with the different ratios (with regards to bolting up together)? All of the diffs are 8" right?

yes all of the 8" carriers are the same,the only difference is of course the final drive ratios,ie pinion and crown wheel gearing and of course the lsd,
vince posted up a very useful site a few months ago with all of the toyota final drive ratios listed.see if you can find it.

and yes the front hubs are the same.

Thanks! Very useful to me! The "2 pinion" listings on the usa sites I think are irrelevant even though I have a 4 pinion (G284) because I'm replacing the diff and the crowns are the same. - This is what I was mainly confused on.

Apologies you are correct. It's definitely 4.1:1 I must have got the code mixed up.
I'm trying to get a lockright or an Aussie locker. They lock automatically - should be a laugh. They arn't as good as the Eatons but they work just the same. Have read that the lock / unlock mech on the Eaton are a bit better, but theyre about 3 times the price.
