Check which format you are recording in and which format your player will recognise. there are several recording formats and some DVD player will only play specific formats.

make sure your player supports VCD (video cd's), also movie files should be in mpeg2 format, if it is in wmv, you will need to convert it, there are a number of free 'dvd creator' progs you can use.

are you talking about dvd format or video cd?????

i have tried dffrent methods of recording dvd and to this day it can still be a bit finicky. most errors are caused cause of bad media or a media that your dvd recorder/players doesnt like. try a few diffrent media types and c where that takes u. the media that i now use appears to work with most branded dvd recorders but not all!!! what software are you using as getting a good software may reduce some complications there is a lot of good freeware that will do the job ok

oh forgot in some cases depending on what software that you are using recording dvd can take up a lot of temp hard drive space this can also cause probs depending on the size of the dvd.....

hope u manage ok and happy recording

To be honest if your pc is old as you say and running win98 you'll struggle to encode the video into a DVD format.

I have tried all sorts of encoding software, and DVD's and have yet find any media ( blank DVD's ) that'll work!! Take my advise and stick to using software called Nero to encode and burn a VCD. A VCD will work in a PC but not all standalone DVD players will play them.

DVD's are notoriously complicated to make work in my opinion. Have a look at www.vcdhelp.com or www.dvdhelp.com ( same site ). Loads of tutorials on the site, and links to free encoding and authoring software.

BTW The majority of standalone DVD players will only accept DVD-R media. Not DVD+R, and only SOME branded media. So don't buy cheapo PC world muck!! Although they are ok for data storage.
