  • Oh dear....

...I just watched Gordon, smiling like he had one stuck in sideways, having his spuds felt by a pensioner who he called a bigot...note to Gordon

    A. Don't smile, you look like you have a stomach ulcer.

    B. Switch your microphone off before insulting old biddies.

I didn't find her bigoted...a bit of a Nazi maybe, but old ladies do tend to be a bit right wing ( see margaret thatcher)
I just admire the way Gordon manages to consistently place his size 9's firmly in his mouth.

Yes it was a classic foot in mouth job & he could'nt have timed it better with the election looming.

Biggest laugh I've had for a while

I think the problem for Gordon now is that he has basically said his party sees people who are concerned about out of control immigration as 'bigots' and his party are happy with the status quo.

It might not be true (though I suspect it is) but the Daily Fail will paint it that way.

Personally (and I am far from racist) I believe that immigration IS an issue and needs to be tackled if we dont want economic migrancy, driven by our laughably lax benefits system dragging the country down.

If you have skills we require, be you black, yellow, brown, pink or all of the above, welcome! If you are prepared to abide by our rules and traditions, come on in. If you are coming here because we'll give you a council house, and subsidise your way of life / religion etc, then stay away. Simples, and a view shared by most sane people I imagine.

However, more important than this is giving our OWN work shy 'lifestyle unemployed' into work. No excuses.

Fit for work then you work, or you're on the street. End of.

Why exactly does everyone believe that immigration is out of control and is such an issue? Ive no doubt that we have our share of economic migrants coming to these shores, for an easy ride, but is it really such an epidemic, and do they really all get it so easy ?
Why does everyone think that a life on benefits in Britain is so fantastic ? I know that there are people who have and are milking the system and choosing that lifestyle, but I also have known people who were unemployed ( not through choice) who have found it extremely hard going to maintain any kind of lifestyle on benefits. I have also known those same people to apply for job after job after job and get nothing, and yes they have applied for menial type jobs outwith their skill, education levels and still got nothing. How does the mantra of " fit for work, then you work or your out on the street" consider them. Since when did it become OK to throw a middle aged couple out in the street because the man has been made recdunant from the low paid menial job he has been in since leaving school at 15 and cant get another job. Its no wonder that all our politicians talk in soundbites because its obvious that the populance are only too ready to believe them. Its all black or white, nobody wants to think about all the shades of grey in case their brains hurt.
Unemployment in our country is a fact of life. We will never have full employment. Bring back the Tories and we may well get even higher unemployment. governments and big business both like high unemployment figures. So accepting than their will always be unemployment, who would you prefer to be in work? The person who wants to work for his own sanity and self esteem, or the career waster ?

Thats an awful long winded way to completely miss the point.

The social security system was set up to provide for those who, for whatever reason *cannot* provide for themselves. Be that inability to find work, ill health, whatever.

It is NOT there to support those who *decide* that they will claim social security rather than take a low paid job. Those who decide to breed like rabbits from the age of 14 with whoever, in order to get free housing.

Perhaps where you live, not much of this goes on. Where I live, it is apparently endemic. One only needs to walk the streets in the less nice parts of the Midlands during the 'working' day to see massive evidence of this.

Tightening up the requirements for immigration to those with skills we dont have will free up some of the less skilled jobs currently done by eastern europeans (fruit picking, hotel / bar work / building site labourers etc) for our lifestyle unemployed to take on.

This will free up some of the social security tax burden so those truly eligible (the long term sick, the unemployed LOOKING for work) are looked after properly.

All I want is a fair system which is less of an easy ride for scroungers, and supports those REALLY in need properly.

                          Im no expert but....
seems to me, the trouble is, under the current system, the 'lifestyle' unemployed (nice!) will not take the crap jobs, they would rather spend all day playing PS3 etc (its a stereotype, but stereotypes are based on truth usually).

Now those people who can't get good jobs due to education, circumstance etc, who have a bit of self worth - the poeple who work 3 crap jobs to pay the mortgage and feed the kids, and who get very little help from the state, they are the ones who loose out. And when they see their mates living easy on similar or MORE money from the social (and earnign tax free side jobs in some cases) is it any wonder they think 'hang on..... I would be better off on the social'

                          hmmmm.

watch it andy mr brown will say your bigotted next lol

i worked from time i left school n laid off at 19 i made myself go out n find work even if it was being taken on for month here a month there but thenthe big drop hit me n thats
it messed up for rest of my life
even when ive gone n try n help stormy sometimes ive ended in tears cause i cant do what alot of people do put i try my best.
people look at me alot n think why he on benefits but then they are the people who just look at a book cover n decide thats a nice cover but when they read the book
                              wish they hadnt bought it.
it goes to show you cant say whats going on in someone's life but i agree ive known people who do try n have a easy life get their social n work sametime.
it certainly not easy being on benefits
what the old biddy said is only whats on alot of peoples minds n good on her immagration has gone to far im trying to keep my family together n being told i cant
have this or cant have that but if i came through the tunnel i can have a 3 bed house or a 4 bed house.
didnt alot of our fathers or grandfathers or even uncles die to stop invasion in the first n second world wars im sure they would turn over in their graves. think the politicians are the bigotted one's
maybe if immgration stopped then those fit to work but wont can do the fruit picking etc
unfortunatley the long term sick / elderly etc are looked down on.
but andy if you ever went into politics you'd get my vote
