does anyone know what are the main differences between the LCD and TFT screens, which is best basically

All TFT's are LCD screens, but not all LCD's are TFT's!
Most LCD's were originally made using STN or super twist nematic technology, whilst newer screens use TFT or Thin Film Transistor.
The TFT will basically offer superior viewing angles and a brighter sharper picture with a truer colour. STN is sometimes refered to as having a "false colour". STN's are really on the way out and only found in lower spec items today. Best to go for a TFT model.
