i grew up with charcoal BBq's in SA, but since moving to ireland and not having the ready supply of hard DRY wood we have now got a gas one we got from homebase about 5 yrs ago, 4 burners (2 for cooking over coals and 2 for the grill plate....
running on propane and she does a beautiful steak of boer wors....
We went to five different Garden Centres, Focus DIY, and Homebase oh and a place called the Range The Gas ones are really nice (excluding price tags) Homebase had the biggest choice, they didn't have any of the volcanic rock coals in them ? is it just straight gas grilling now ? Wanted one of them fire pit things but swmbo said NO
We have both charcol is nice when loafing around camping, or lots of people round house. If just the two of us at home then just 'cook' outdoors on the gas one.

I am really unhappy about throwing our Barrel BBQ in the skip last autumn, have always has charcoal, but brother-in-law got an Outback gas BBQ and as Tony N said ; very quick and saves time especialy when late home from work you can be cooking pretty quickly no waiting etc ?
GAS No competition, and get one without those lava rocks. You can use it anytime rain or shine. I reluctantly moved from traditional to gas 4 years ago, and was glad I did.
