Insurance for a 17 Year old on a Ford Fiesta, £2000?

Is there a young persons specialist insurer?

A friend of mine's son has just passed his test and has bought a reasonable car (I think) for his first trusty steed; a Ford Fiesta.

I think it's only a 1.3L and is getting on a bit now but it's no wonder people drive without insurance when it's going to cost them £2000 for something that is less than attractive to the ladies!

Does anybody know of an insurer that is likely to be less than the idiots on confused.com, I know they are supposed to show a huge amount of insurers but I've never been insured by any of the people on those comparison sites as they've never been the cheapest option for me personally.

Get a different car but check out the insurance groups before they buy it!

Also, if they're 17 but nearly 18 wait til they turn 18. Add low risk drivers as named drivers (mum/dad/granny/etc). Accept limitations (eg no driving between 11pm and 6am or something, 6000 miles a year or whatever else you can think of).

Also, if they are a member of a trade union or association, etc, they may be able to get discounted insurance through them (for example the NASUWT and NUT do, and I get my insurance through the CSMA cos my dad is an ex-postman)

I know what you mean. Sadly even with full no claims here and lots of driving underbelt all insurers want the world at the moment.

1.3Ghia is what I had the first year when I passed my test. Seem to recall first year was £900 TPFT.

I would suggest trying a few people such as NFU, independant insurance brokers.

Compare the market, confused web sites do credit checks each time you fill out an online application which after two or three attemps buts your fees up because people can see that you have been applying everywhere. Just another scam to make you pay more I think!

Try Liverpool Victoria there supposed to be fairly good for young drivers

It was Direct Line in the end, they came back with £1600 which was the cheapest by far.

They are not writing any business from the UK anymore because they are broke - apparently!

Pity, that means I need a new insurer at renewal!

They were ###### cheaps as well!

Can't we all just make our own insurance company up? Minimum one years no claims plus some other minor details and we'll beat all of those other companies on prices.

I can't imagine paying more per year to insure a car, that costs a quarter of the years insurance costs.
