Strikes me that spending a mere £30 to have the gases removed legally is a small price to pay, considering the risk involved.
But hey, what do I know, right?

An Aircon guy can remove the gas from the system. If your A/C dosn't work there is a good chance there is no significant gas left in there anyway, take of the valve caps from near the A/C compressor and see if there is any pressure on the valve, its like a big tyre valve.
If nothing comes out when you press something in the valve, just go ahead and take it apart and bin it all.
If there is gas in there then morally you need to get it removed by someone who can dispose of it properly (ie, charge you money!) lol4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road...
