Having had a V6, yes, they are, erm, a little thirsty.
I presume if yours is a Runner it's a manual? If so, try the auto. It used to take me just over a full tank to get from London to York.....
If you run it fairly low and put high octane fuel in it, you may find it helps. I don't know if they sorted it on the UK versions, but the Jap ones run a lot smoother and give about an extra 15% fuel efficiency on high octane, because that's what they use in Japan.

Couldn't afford expensive fuel when I had mine.
The manual UK trucks seemed a little more responsive than the Auto Surfs I've driven.
It would do 300 miles to a tank full on long sensibly drive trips, and about 200-220 miles round town.
Which hurt at 80p a liter when I had mine, scary these days....4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road...
