So what is the point in having fire fighters anymore???

they arent allowed to enter burning buildings half the time.

they arent allowed to be lowered down a mine shaft to save a woman from death?!

and they strike when they dont like their pay or working conditions!.. I have no sympathy for them as they signed up to do the job, knew the risks involved and i get annoyed because i had to partake in covering the firefighters while i was in the army, when they went on strike!

    as for health and safety......

I work in an industry where HSE issues are of prime importance, at the forefront of everything, but you start wondering if its gone just a little OTT when you need to post MSDS sheets and have COSHH appraisals for domestic cleaning products. I also find that there are far too many people ready to claim "its a safety issue" when its quite clearly not.
Many of these HSE driven instructions and edicts are now more about protecting organisations from ambulance chasing lawyers who might just sue. Remember the hobby bobbies who watched someone drown not so long back because they hadnt been trained or some such guff. Its up to individuals at the scene now to decide. I like to think that if I had been there, Id have said f*c* it. Im going in and Im going to pull her out and to hell with the consequences. Sorry boss but today I disobey. I do worry however that we are busy creating a generation who have no such powers of independent thought.

Agreed, the balance is all wrong. H&S rules are now way beyond useful, they are a restriction of our physical liberties while worse Political Correctness is a restriction of our minds.

If someone offends you then deal with it, be ###### offended, it’s an emotion nothing happens. Since when did “sticks and stones will break your bones” become irrelevant. Plenty people make me happy, angry, sad, can I complain? Should I be allowed to? Of course not.

We are all aware of these facts but we do nothing.
Like the economist who managed to get his horse down to eating nothing, the horse died. We see these things coming, we are not daft, but do we speak out.
Our Politicians are terrified to speak their mind to say what they really think. The number one goal of any politician is to be in power even the very good ones have and require this as a priority.

Who would have voted for a party that said 5yrs ago “we need to stop the casino banking and get of the capitalist merry go round” Correct no one would have.

We force politicians into saying what we want to hear by the very system we operate. Not what they believe is best or what they know to be a better way. They live as a result in a 5yr bubble with election the number one goal.

My point, Bogus is spot on but it is us that need to fix this, the capitalist operations of the western world are not sustainable. Leaders in public and private sector need to grow the balls to say stop.
Easy to say very hard to do most large organisation weather public or private are not lead their leaders are pushed by targets, KPIs or GDP. Chasing GDP is wrong it has no balance and offers no long term benefit we must start to shift priority or we are going to hell in a hand basket.

This poor woman’s story is just the end result of a system operating as above. We must stop this, we must get off the merry go round and demand a re think and a shift in focus to what really matters and it is not PC, HS or GDP.

It's all driven by money, think up another health and safety ruling, get paid for it so it never ends, this was the end result, and Yoshie, your spot on mate .

The blame claim culture has developed alot of it as well. Absolutely ridiculous.

Did anyone see the 'Blames , claims and compensation games' programme a few days ago?

some of the stories shocked the hell out of me.

What happended to being responsible for your own health and safety like watching where your walking and not going near anything that looks like it could cause injury.

One woman sued for having a tree branch fall on her>? she was sat under the tree!

what next ....... sueing because your shoes got damaged when you walked through a puddle that a blocked drain caused?!

Its people like myself that had an accident on the railway and they are H&S conscious but i still had an accident which ended up after 4 years inme losing my job due to ill health
Its all these stupid claims that make it worse for people like myself who is claimming. My claim is against Networkrail tho and not a private claim

that kids parents were delighted when they heard how much they were getting, but earlier they said ''it wasnt about the money''! sponging ignorant tw*ts. Do they realise that tax payers moneys pays that bill and in return if loads of people sue for ridiculous things we just end up paying more tax and premiums!

I'm glad that particular borough has got that ex copper as a private investigator now to actually see where these so called accidents happened and get a detailed report on the area.
What about that ruddy woman at the kids sportsday who broke her ankle while in the parents race, she then wanted to sue the school for an uneven playing field.
Its a field for christ's sake its not going to be level. That was a good job there was video evidence of the race where it showed the woman falling over and it proved she just fell through running fast and nothing to do with the field

yea, glad the school had evidence of that.

not heard of many silly claims down this end of the country, but down here i like to think us country folk have more sense!

So did she end up with a criminal record for attempting to perverse the course of justice? Will that be noted every time she has to stand up in court again? Sadly not.

While it should be possible to sue if something is genuinely wrong (see this story, for example), if you abuse that right, it should be taken off you.

                            Ooops. Even bigger water spillage.
