  • Rear window mechanism

During the ice / snow period I foolishly tried to lower my back window, and to my surpise something went bang and now it's stuck closed.
If I try to lower the window electronically whilst giving it a nudge with my hands the motor / mechanism will grip and go all the way down and back up almost to the top where I will need to push it closed. This leads me to believe the mechanism is missing some teeth along the top.

Firstly does anyone have a mechanism from a breaker they are willing to send me? Stormforce?

Also, How difficult are they to change? I'm not looking forward to it I can sense it is going to be a pain in the ***

    cheers,
    Oh Nana, what's my name?

It's not that hard - it's possible to extend the window with the tailgate open, if you use a screw driver to close the latches on the sides first. Make sure you support the window as it extends. Pull off the carpeted section, remove the metal panel underneath and all should become clear.

Hi Tony.I've only got the one mechanism which i want to keep hold of as the truck i got here waiting for mot may need it
Your rear diff will have to wait now also for a few days as i sliced my hand up in 3 places earlier getting it out. It's just about out but i can't close my hand at the mo to grip

You know the three blades toyota fit to the top of their diff....?

To the OP, the fault wont be stripped teeth, it will be the rubber shock absorber pad debonding. It can be repaired easily. Do a search.

i was using a spanner as a breaker on another spanner and the breaker slipped off and the jaws of the spanner on the nut stuck in my hand. Its 2 holes on the palm and another on the middle finger. Its really tender at the mo and can't clech my hand so i've had to leave things go for a day or 2 till it heals up enough to be able to carry on.Its a ruddy pain as i need to get this truck out and to the scrap yard

trouble was i couldn't get a socket or proper breaker bar in the space so i had to do it this way.Next time i'll wear some decent gloves when doing this type of thing

Bl00dy hell mate! Hope that it heals up soon. I would rather you wait until you can get the diff out without causing yourself further injury! I am in no rush for it and don't want an injured Stormy either!

Plus, I think blood is a nightmare to get out

                Thanks Andy,
However this must be a one off instance where this is not possibly the problem. The reason being I bridged the two metal plates together with thin bar and TIG welded them together. This motor broke on me a few years ago and the problem was what you mention above. I thought a good ol' fashioned welding together would do the job

You might have destroyed the worm gear in the motor then if it's been welded at the plates and the window was frozen shut.

I'll have to pull it apart then. There is that possibility, but I think if thats the case then it wouldnt go up or down full stop. If I nudge it passed the full closed position, then it goes up / down without an issue - which leads me to believe its the mechanism and not anything else

Maybe, you might have just bent the top of mech, the teeth on those mechs are pretty solid to break off.

You can see the mech in this pic, it actually has 2 geared parts, if only one was damaged the window would not go up straight.

I can't remember how the motor ties in to the mech.
I'll try and get it apart this weekend. Hopefully it all goes back together!

                          cheers

I'm talking ########, the motor drives one gear and this meshes with the other spreading window load.

It's been so long since I've had it apart I've forgotten, myself!

Cheers for the pictures and assistance
