    My compressor clutch went on my aircon for a BMW, I sourced a brand new one in america (same model and engine etc should be identical) but my local garage thinks it may not be suitable... different gases etc

    any ideas

      yup, as above, can they not just switch the clutch, you can on most compressors, biggest advantage is saves having to re-gas it as well then.

        Sorry my post was a bit vague... the clutch went and I was told it was impossible to fix i had to buy a whole new compressor.... so one new compressor later from the USA and they think their might be compatability issues...

          For general info,

          the compressor mounted onto the engine fine but the connectors used in refrigerant circuit (plumbing~) in the states differ from those used in europe.

          A little work and its all working fine...
