oh and as for glabal warming.....i read that earth was in "warm mode" for the last 2 decades and now its gone into "cold mode" so we should expect colder times ahead for the next couple of decades or so. (?)
Nope, there will be loads of Lexurfs around by then!

Thats not to say that we shouldn't "do our bit" as it were, just that the truth is much deeper than the latest Friends of the Green Wildlife UN Climate Change committee leaflet.

Personally, I'm not particularly worried about internal combustion engines, electric cars or whatever. When the technology is right it'll happen cos there will be money in it for someone. What we don't need is a false market being created (a la carbon trading - who do you think is making money out of that little scam, eh?). I'll give you a hint, he's from India and his name sounds a bit like Patchauri. Oh. That is his name.

The earth is a pretty robust planet and will stand up to most of the abuse we can throw at it. Locally, the people and animals probably won't (eg heavy metal poisoning of rivers around the mines where the metals used for making solar panels come from).

I could rant for hours on this but I won't bore you all to death about it!
couldnt agree more mate. well said.

electric cars dont give off the secondary polluyion that a combustion engine car would. yeah they might use up the same resources to make them in the factories or whatever but once they are on the road they use minimal power to go and they dont have exhaust. how mad is that. cant see how anyone can argue that replacing over 30 million cars with exhaust with 30 million cars without exhaust is a waste of time.
                peace.
They use exactly the same amount of power to move anywhere.

                Power = (force x distance) / time

If we're comparing moving the same weight, etc, lump of car over the same distance and the same time then the power needed is identical.

The "exhaust" for an electric car isn't local - it's at a power station many miles away. Just because it isn't attached to the vehicle doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

And to make. If they're lithium polymer batteries (and they are, no others are efficient / light enough) they are dirty to make too.

Swings and roundabouts. Pollute like crazy making them, pollute a little less when using them, pollute like crazy disposing of them.

The solution is hydrogen fuel cells. 'Rechargeable' cars will never be more than the 'betamax' or 'minidisk' of automotive history.

call me a girl but i really do care about our planet and anything greener and cleaner is ok by me.
the sad thing is that this technology has been around for over 20 years but because of the profit made from tax etc on petrol and deisel the electric car has never had a chance. its never been in demand and so no designers and manufacturers have really taken it seriously yet.
im not sure why. it doesnt take a genius to know there is a MASSIVE market for people who would like to drive an electric car because they are extremeley cheep to run and unique and more importantly they are clean and friendly to the enviroment.
(ironically i dont actually believe in global warming and thats not why i like the electric car but obviously todays cars dont help things up there in the clouds)
dont get me wrong i will miss the V8's and the classics motors man has made over the last century but IMHO the time has come to move on.
i know im the new guy here and you will all probably hate me now but oh well lol. hopefully one or two of you may feel the same?
i just think there areSO many things mankind can change to make our lifes better.
ever since i saw this first car on TopGear i now look at all cars in disgust. the horible dirty, oily filthy and more importantly POINTLESS combustion engine cars!
why the heck do we still use these dirty things?
                        anyway. rant over.
                        check these puppies out.
this one has interchangeable bodies that simply bolt onto the electric battery platform. kinda like buying a new case for your phone.
i love what the CEO says about serious compition in order to make them affordable! god bless him!

                          I sincerely HOPE it's a windup !

But I'll still join in ...

There's only one way to measure how 'green' a vehicle is and that's to compare the WHOLE LIFE costs, both financial and ecological.

A Prius comes out very poorly - ecologically they're very expensive because of the batteries, both from a production and disposal viewpoint (Allegedly they need replacing after 8 years at a cost of around £8k - who would spend that much on an 8 year old runabout ?)

I tend to buy a car and run it into the deck - my 6 year old Fawkus has done 115k miles and I'll expect to cover another 100k or so before I get rid of it. The Surf will be staying a lot longer although (In my dreams) it'll have a V8 Lexus lump in it by the time it's scrapped !

I wonder if it's harder to make a Lexurf out of a turd gen ...

Life is too important to take seriously !

                                why you say that mate?
just wanted to see what people thought of the cars. personally i love them.
i dont knwo the facts but even if they are just as bad the Trexa car gets my vote on coolness. if you take it abroad you can simply slide the steering wheel over to the left hand side and off you go
i like things different and futuristic so i'd thought i'd share it with others on here thats was all.

but after the responses, i can see now that asking people on a 4x4 forum if they liked electric cars was a bad idea! lol
