  • Help Please Find a $3000 Bearing

Hello all from Central America, Nicaragua.
I have a 1998 4 Runner with a Diesel 3.0 L 1KZ-TE Engine that needs a set of balance shaft sleeve bearings. Actually I really only need 1 center sleeve bearing to get by.
These bearings come as part of the block (pressed into the block) and nobody including a fairly big Toyota dealer here has them and they cannot be ordered either.
My alternative is to buy a block from Toyota for $3000 or I found a used engine for $2500.
All this for a part that probably would be a few dollars.

I have been unable to find anyone here who could fabricate this part either.
Do any of you have info on how to do that?
Do any of you know of a source for this part?

    Thanks,

    Desperate John

How was the problem diagnosed, what are/were the symptoms?

I've never heard of that diagnosis before on the 3.0 diesel engine.

The sleeve bearing was completely scored and not usable. I did not see the balance shaft but it had to be bad too. I loaned the car and when they came back it had a blown head gasket. They told me they had to have the radiator repaired for a leak so maybe they overheated it.
I suspect they ran it low in oil too???

Crazy - Page EM-68 of that crappy scan manual says if the clearance between the balance shaft and bearing in the block is out of tolerance then replace the shaft *AND THE BLOCK*.
