Toyotas Troubles...

On the Can bus system used on the later Toyota's and any other modern car every item connected to the ecu is given a unique register these are sent twice down the high and low can wires to eliminate interferance alongside a check bit for verification the ecu then checks the parameters received against
expected data and only acts if it receives what it expected to receive, the problem could be that the ecu is wrongly identifying the registers from another item of equipment as a speed signal which in theory cannot happen because to many other items that rely data related to speed would be affected ie gear changes, speed sensitive steering and the fault would be very apparent, or the throttle module is misinterpreting the command from the ecu and opening up to much but once again the can system being two way the ecu would then identify the throttle as being open to far and attempt to rectify it.
Of course if the problem is mechanical the more likely option then the ecu can do nothing about it.
Still if I get done for speeding in my Surf which is a fly by wire model can I claim the engine ran awayionic SURFactant

so commands must be serial data and sent send down the high and low lines (balanced) with a check bit. It would seem thats a fairly robust system
It just i wonder if its the programming itself.
you would thing that the brain / ECU had a override command and would sense the simultaneous accelerate and brake command and think.... 'what's all this then' ....brake takes priority...__________________

Toyota will sort this out, but has a far worse problem with the US trying to sabotage them and use this as a means to try and badmouth Toyota and salvage some of there own vehicle manufacturing industry disaster.

the one thing that gets me about this whole acceleration problem... ok, they say their brakes arent working, and the vehicle is accelerating... why dont they pop it in neutral so theres no more acceleration, then maybe the foot brakes will work, if not, theres the EMERGENCY brakes...? isnt that what they're for?
I've had to do that when my 85's throttle cable stuck open and I was accelerating :P lol
before they go jumping down the manufacturers throats.. why dont they look at the level and quality of drivers training thats being given as well..

While there is a problem with the cars, which should be fixed, the mass hysteria and panic is a little bit pathetic.Andy
