              I am on Linkedin.

Have used it once or twice to contact people I used to work with years ago but had lost touch with.

I work in the publishing/ book-printing industry, so have a few contacts that are too formal for facebook but too informal to email or phone every week, so just keep in touch through Linkedin.

You can also use it at work with less sarcastic comments from colleagues as it looks like you are "networking" as opposed to dossing on a social website

Well i am under pressure to use it for a Business support project in Barnsley, I think the partners have this idea that we can 'network' and communicate with the 'day rate' associate advisor team and communicate one to many with project stuff, I'm just too cynical and old for all this, But I agree, the management do see this as technically 'networking' with other business professionals etc now ifwe were caught on twitter or facebook then that would be trouble !

You know something Karen said earlier in this thread got me thinking , work to live etc and doing a job because it's something you can do rather than something you dreamed of doing, case in point me, I do retail, I don't ever remember playing retail managers at school we played fun games like cowboys and indians "bionic man" robin hood etc..

I watch my young he was four on monday, and I think to myself, he plays farmersl, fireman race driver etc I just sometimes wonder if I could do something I like for a living rather than something I can do, but truth is I do playing music in a band and make a nice side line out of it, would be nice to say oh I'm a proffesional musician rather than retail manager sometimes..

erm yep it's the bottle of wine talking, time to go lol

It is the formal/informal thing that is the difference.

I don't really socialise with any of our clients from work, and wouldn't necessarily want them to see pics of me/family or sarcastic, amusing, rude comments from my mates to be visible to them as it would be if I joined them on Facebook.

Sweetheart, there's nothing wrong with taking stock & having dreams. That's what helps make life bearable. I don't intend to be stuck in an office for the rest of my working life. Been toyin with going into a more hands on trade like plastering or general building or decorating. Rather be busy & moving about than stuck in an office chair.

Glad it's not just me then Karen hehe, what I do for a living isn't life and death, I know the difference, I watched my son being born, I watched my friend die. Weather or not a form has been filled in correctly/proceedure has been followed doesn't matter to me the same way.

Yup the wine is talking again.
