  • Anyone in the midlands with a 2nd gen? Potential new owner

    Hi Guys,

I've posted a couple of times on here but not much, I currently have a 1989 Hilux single cab pickup which is excellent. I stuck a double passenger seat in it pretty much as soon as i bought it, but I still find myself wanting to carry more people sometimes, so much so that i've looked into fitting bench seats to the back (removable) - which then got me thinking do i want to look at a surf.

The main use of the my truck currently is for kayaking trips, where i'd want to have 5 people + 5 kayaks max on the roof, which should be fine (read the many posts about roof racks and foresee a homemade unistrut one!).

Since i'm in leicester currently and all the kayaking is in wales/the lakes etc (as are all my friends that kayak) I really want to retain the ability to have my kayak inside the vehicle until i get up to the lakes etc, this is fine in my truck (just fits in diagonally), but i want to know if it will fit into a surf before i really start looking for one. This leads me onto my real question:

Is there anyone in Leicester (or nottingham/coventry etc) with a 2nd gen surf that would let me see if I can fit my kayak inside (no metaphors lol) with the seats down?

Measurements are all fine and good, but the kayaks a pretty awkward shape, and i dont want to chance it. Incidentally it's 259cm long, 66cm wide and 34cm deep, and looks like this

    Cheers, Ben

I'm in Stoke-on-Trent. The next time you're off to Wales I'm probably on the way for you. To give you an idea as to where I am I'm pretty near the M6, A500, A50, A34 area.

                Legend!

It turns out i'm off upto the lakes the next two coming weekends, and I normally go M1, A50, A500, M6! This friday i'm collecting lots of veg oil from someone on the way in manchester, but if you're about the sunday eve (14th) or the friday/sunday of the following weekend i may well have to take you up on that offer! I can't find a personal message thing on here so drop me an email at: neoxerox@hotmail.com

I assume there's no real difference in internal dimensions between the trim/engine variants within the second gens?

Thanks for all the offers - nice community you have here!

You have to become a paid-up member, and you then get pms and a blue star and all manner of goodies, least of which is the warm glow of helping your fellow surfers...
