Yep, I got 33.4mpg on a run up to Chester and back out of the 3rd gen (2.7 petrol) when it was on stock wheels/tyres.

I was getting 24.7 when my truck was standard and now its lifted and on 33's i think i worked it out i am getting about 23mpg.
When towing i get about 19mpg and that towing nearly 2.5t
I know these figures are right as i would never be able to afford to travel to collect trucks

I would say yoshies 3rd gen is getting in the 30's on a run no problem. 3.0 manual.

Well i would expect more from a manual, however never saw 30 ever. Perhaps mine has always had a problem ? and i'm not talking bout me right foot. Very gentle driving ive never got near it, problem now is gearing is so high its difficult to get into top at low speeds but you cant have everything it is S**T Hot off road !!!

It's easy, accelerate gently to around 55mph and as soon as the transmission locks up ease off the throttle until you're sitting around 52mph. When you're approaching a hill gently accelerate so you maintain lockup on the hill

            Simples !

(Please note that driving this way is even more boring than travelling on the A26 in France)

Life is too important to take seriously !

Cheers Ross. It seems that there's loads of v8 conversions happening... But there's only one vince... Wonder if we can clone him.

i think that after a few years of this you will start to see on ebay.
"Toyota Hilux Surf (Rare Diesel engine) still fitted" not the standard v8 mod.
Show me where the trench is at or can i make one!

Aye, there are at least 3 Lexus V8/Surf conversions that we know of. Common as muck...

Been answered already, but... The mazda engine is an unusual, individual thing that the car was built around. The surf engine is a bog standard, plain, inline 4 cylinder diesel engine. So you can't really compare swapping them out, can you?

The Lexus V8 I mentioned is just the engine - i can find out what it is if you are interested, It's sitting on a pallet at a place near me - the guy bought it and they delivered a V8 instead of the V6 he asked for so it's still there he only want's £150 for it (i think) if anyone is seriously interested i'll make some enquirys - there's no ecu or anything though.
