Fleabay is ok for looking for a Surf (or any other vehicle in fact) but be wary of who you're buying from the same as you would in any private sale. Caveat emptor and all that.

I got mine via pistonheads.com which seems a useful site for sales - they tend to be enthusiasts (hence the site name!)

When I was looking Autotrader always seemed a good bet - but don't forget to look at the various options for the same thing (ie Hilux, Surf, 4-runner, Hilux Surf, etc) cos you could turn up a good deal that is hidden in the Autotrader database somewhere.

Good luck in finding a Surf/4-runner!

£2100 for a 110k mile 2.4 with no history, no tax and 2 months MOT? Somebody is having a bubble bath.

Its worth £1250 tops. Have you seen this one?: http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/forums/sh...ad.php?t=59783

Glad I checked here first! I'll keep an eye on it and see if they relist it for less as it didn't sell last time.

It seems like one of the most complete Surfs on eBay atm. The others have terrible alloys or rust and damage.

I've never even been in a Surf before. Or driven a 4x4! Hope I like it.

They are great trucks, bullet proof if looked after. Do a search on the forum and read up on them. Don't buy a 2.4 unless its had a replacement cylinder head. You'll be the luckiest man on the planet if you find a 2nd generation (92-96) one without rust on the chrome rear bumpers or at the bottom of the doors on the inside.

                  I'd but this http://daemon4x4.org/board/topic.php?id=1632

I'd remove the surf decal off the side but i like the fact it has no ECU and the price is good :-)

A NA 2.4 might be a bit underpowered for my liking.

I think I'll look into a viewing of Gnash's surf. A set of spot lamps and job's a good 'un!

Mine (93 3.0) has no rust in either of those places. If fact it has no rust anywhere.

To the OP, personally, I wouldn't pay more than a grand for a 2.4. You WILL find one if you look, but it wont be from a dealer, and dealer 'warranties' aren't worth a carrot so dont be too worried on that score.

You should be able to find 3.0's for les than £1500 if you look, and the saving over what you were going to pay will pay the difference in insurance for a year!

Dont be too worried about buying private. Just take someone who knows these vehicles with you if you're not totally confident you know what you're looking for.

The one in question seems really tidy and I was thinking of offering 1700 for it. But I'm getting the impression that's too much. TO be honest I think they look better beaten up anyway!

Sadly, I need to get a 2.4 as the difference in insurance is massive between the 2.4 and 3.0 for me.

So, the rear window can be lowered with the key?!
I have one for sale and located in Bath currently. 2.4 Manual. Years MOT and 6 months TAX.

I'm sure you do get rust free ones, if the bumper sides have been replaced
