Probably only buy 'bull bars' 2nd hand these days.

Side steps generally get taken off and binned, and replaced with some less bendy sliders, or left off altogether.

Where are they available from? Is there a shop that's affiliated with this forum?

Can you buy bull-bars for Surfs? The two in this thread are a bit weedy!

I believe you mate. You must admit yourself that its extremely difficult to find a Surf without rusty rear chrome though. A good example, try finding rust free ones from a breakers.

I'm sure you do get rust free ones, if the bumper sides have been replaced

Sadly, I need to get a 2.4 as the difference in insurance is massive between the 2.4 and 3.0 for me.

So, the rear window can be lowered with the key?!

Mine (93 3.0) has no rust in either of those places. If fact it has no rust anywhere.

To the OP, personally, I wouldn't pay more than a grand for a 2.4. You WILL find one if you look, but it wont be from a dealer, and dealer 'warranties' aren't worth a carrot so dont be too worried on that score.

You should be able to find 3.0's for les than £1500 if you look, and the saving over what you were going to pay will pay the difference in insurance for a year!

Dont be too worried about buying private. Just take someone who knows these vehicles with you if you're not totally confident you know what you're looking for.

A NA 2.4 might be a bit underpowered for my liking.

I think I'll look into a viewing of Gnash's surf. A set of spot lamps and job's a good 'un!

I'd remove the surf decal off the side but i like the fact it has no ECU and the price is good :-)
