  • What should I be looking to pay?

    Hi all,

After a couple of year without a Surf I need another one! Always knew I'd be back at some stage!

What should I be looking at paying for a decent 3rd Gen? They seem to go privately for between £3-4K, although some dealers seem to want £6k!

I have had 2 2nd Gens in the past - I guess they are mechincial similar to the later 3.0L 2nd Gens - is that right?

    Any tips gratefully received.

    Cheers,

    Paul

I think the third gen is a bit more refined and has locking diffs. Shop around it's deffo a buyers market

No locking diffs, it does however have a centre diff which can be locked.
Locking front and rear diffs is a totally differant thing.

The 3rd gen also has a differant chasiss shares the same one as the landcrusier prado. Has a car type steering rack not a steering box.
Coil sprung suspension all round, ABS brakes, lift-up tailgate with same elec window. 16" wheels with bigger front brakes.
It has a larger body on a longer wheelbase, more space inside, twin airbags,

Is a bit up on power on the 2nd gen as well

there was a good one out here, Maidenhead way a week back - I could of had for £2.5k. As things turn out I've got enough parts from Stormforce to put our 2nd gen back on the road.
