  • My Beautiful wife

Wife.."Can I take the Surf into town?"

(there is a foot of snow on the ground)

Me.. "Course you can, only it's not like your other 4 wheel drives"

    Wife.. "What do you mean?"

Me.. "when it's slippery engage 4 wheel drive, where the road is clear, back into 2 wheel drive" I then gave a detailed speech on axle wind up blah blah, finishing with, "when you take it out of 4 wheel drive, the light sometimes stays on for a while"

    Wife.. "OK, I'm not stupid"

I just had a phone call... "Why does the 'overdrive off' light go on and off while I'm driving"

When this happens is it actually out of 4WD and the light's just stuck on, or is it actually stuck in 4WD for a while? Why does quickly putting it into reverse sort it out if it's just the 4WD light that's stuck on?

I believe it's still in 4wd, not just the light. I have sort of got a knack now of coming off the power, and then it comes out of 4wd easier.
If it refuses to come out of 4wd I stop and reverse up a bit and it pops out.
I think it's to do with the rotation of the earth, and which way round you are driving.
