Because there is too many variables with our vehicles that can effect mpg. It's a wide estimate, but accurate. Unfortunatley mine is only 1mpg of the lowest figure.
Fuel consumption figures really are relevant to your own personal circumstances. There are many factors. Where you drive ie; do spend most of your time in the country or city, do you drive like a boyracer, is your car regularly & properly serviced, do you tow stuff?
I get about 23 to 30mpg. Yup its a vague estimate but its about right for me & the way i drive.
If I drive like an angel i reckon i could get a little more than 30mpg.

I'm in the wide band too - can get 30mpg on a (very rare) long run but normally it does the shopping run and tows a 1500kg caravan so average mpg is in the low 20's
just done a week on a tank and I worked it out that i am doing about 16 MPG around town with the ETC button pressed (opps) should realy stop racing away from the lights...
Not used a full tank on my latest surf yet, but the chap who built it reckons he was getting about 8mpg on a run! Anyone know somebody who can tune rover v8's in Somerset?
